So what should we do?

Just hold your stock for a little bit longer for waiting for this order (it will be about 4 or 5 month), because anyone that have a ready stock product will have the order especially for contemporer design furniture and building component (ussually using finger joint) product, maybe it will be look's like wasting our money and gambling for this situation, but I think, there will be some result from it...

Like we all know, that Japan product have the highest price in the market, so start to look for it, get your marketing team to start investigate this market NOW, remember that Japan market loves solid wood a lot, China doesn't have any good solid wood, Thailand have a problem with the infrastructure that caused the transportation time get slower, so Indonesia is the best way for them, we got a lot of solid woods right....

For decking and flooring, we know that Japan market have a different standard sizes for this product, so start to stock your material, so when you have the market, you can cut your logs using the Japan standard sizes, don't stock the finish product because there will be higher risk for this gambling...

But afterall it just one of my opinion, so it will be up to you how to get into the market and handle this kind of situation, remember that we must look at all of the factor not only what I write down here...., GOOD LUCK..., God Bless Indonesia...
Woodworking Machineryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03481510120379042258noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4575077816424867218.post-37184025081392532492011-04-05T03:44:00.000-07:002011-04-05T05:14:11.129-07:00Wood Prices Getting too Expensive.
<span style="font-family:"Georgia","serif"; color:black">Ya, it is true that wood prices are getting higher each day, but remember that not only your business that have this situation, but all of woodworking factory are having the same problem….

<span style="font-family:"Georgia","serif"; color:black">And so now everyone complaining the material price is too expensive and the selling price that you cannot raised it…, the simple thing is if everyone think the same way as we are, then there will be no woodworking factory in the world, even China still growing in this business…, and they got their material from us (the transport price are not cheap ok…), they have their rules that to export their finish wood product, they must import their material from other country like as Indonesia, Russia, etc. , the worker salary are now about 400 USD, it’s not cheap anymore. So you can imagine how difficult the situation for them..

<span style="font-family:"Georgia","serif"; color:black">But you see even they have this kind of situation; they still survived and earning money and even earning more money than us…! The answer is simple, the Honda makes something better even from the same country!

Ok, now why there is somes Taiwan machines more expensive than Europe machines? and the answer is simple again..., they just made a better machines! remember not all Europe machines are better, it depend on what kind of machine do you mentioned about, sometimes even a Europe machinery factory are only a small house industry!

Do you know that 3 of the largest CNC router manufacturer in the world are Anderson that is made from Taiwan!

So you now must hink that not all machine are valued from which country they made from, but it also depend on which machine do you mentioned and the quality do they have!
Woodworking Machineryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03481510120379042258noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4575077816424867218.post-74832205174866989102008-12-19T23:37:00.000-08:002008-12-19T23:47:51.996-08:00Can we made a good woodworking machines?
The answer are 100% YES!! But ther is also if we made it with the same quality like as Germany, Japan, or Taiwan, that meants we must sell the machine about 40% higher price than them!

Even China can make a machine that equal to Taiwan, but that will be meant higher price, so who would buying a machine more expensive than Taiwan with the same quality from China?

The Taiwan machines factory have a very strong sub power, that meants they only sell design and idea, they even have a factory that specialized in Painting only! that meants each part of the machines is worked by someone that are specialized for it! Not all parts done by one factory that made higher cost and lower quality cause they don't have skill at that factor!

Germany and Japan already have an experience and knowledge for a high technology machines, but for basic machines, they cannot survive too long because of high cost for making it but a very low profit.

So the answer for those question are we can make a high quality machines, but it will be use less, because it will be too expensive to made and no one will buy them!
Woodworking Machineryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03481510120379042258noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4575077816424867218.post-22483901927285534572008-12-19T23:05:00.000-08:002008-12-19T23:37:21.381-08:00Woodworking industry in future.
Woodworkers industry in Indonesia always worried about their future, just like as where they can find market, where they can find their woods material, what kind of process, the future of their factory, competitor in China and other South East Asia country.

let me tell you, before about year's ago our country woodworking industry have a major competitor at China, we always think why does the Chinesse can make a very cheap product with the same or even more better quality. Believe me they do have something that Indonesia Industry never considered about! They use machines (real machines)! for small factory they use china machines combined with Taiwan machines, for medium factory they use European machines 40%, Taiwan machines 40% and China machine 20%, and for the large factory, They use 80% Europe machines and 20% Taiwan machines, this are from our experience travel to they factory, and they also have open minded for it, they accept us to have a tour at their factory (not happen often here!). With that kind of machines they can produce something with higher value and lower cost, different from our country that a lot of woodworkers think of price as number 1 factor to choose a machine not the quality and purpose! Even China factory stock ware house sometimes using a computerized system (a fully automated ware house)! The other factor are they using a policy from their country to restitute their tax so if they sells some product for export without any profit at all and already counted every cost they needs they will have a profit of 10% from tax restitution, but now they cannot do it again cause the goverment already canceled the policy, now Industry at China have a very difficult situation, they cannot restitute any more, they must pay each month to the goverment for each their worker for a guarantee for the worker will have money if the factory collapsed, they also facing a policy that they must imported woods from other country if they wanted to sell their product for foreign country, but if they sell it for china market the policy doesn't exist. So we can take a conclusion now China is not a threat for our industry, but how about Thailand? Ok Thailand have a very unstable goverment and less variety of woods, Malaysia also have a high cost to build a factory there.

Ok now we talk about our country, the policy the goverment made for save our wood's by using a legal wood's is a must policy that all of us must obey (we must save the wood's and enviroment!) so don't think it as an obstacle for your industry Ok, start to follow the rule! But sometimes the goverment also have a silly workers that made something legal they made it illegal (such pain!) this type of thing's that we really need to wipe of from our country! And also policy in our country changes so fast and immediately almost without notice, this is an obstacle for our industry, but I see now the goverment start to make their self better.

Our country has a lot of variety of woods, this is something that our competitor don't have so I think there will still hopes for us in the future, as long as we can stay made our production more efficient and start to have open mind to other experience!

We as a machine supplier are not smarter than you, not richer than you, not as hard workers as you, but what we have is an experience from watching from one factory to other each day, and facing customer problem to another each day, listening to one customer to another each day. We are here only to give the information we have from other's to you!

We hope by our help the Woodworking industry at our country will stay alive for a long future and that will make us alive too.
Woodworking Machineryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03481510120379042258noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4575077816424867218.post-75857671330928386632008-12-19T22:15:00.000-08:002008-12-19T23:00:04.162-08:00Guide to choose a woodworking machines.
This is a question that almost all woodworking industry in Indonesia always ask us, there is a lot of type of customer that is price oriented, technology oriented and the best one is purpose oriented.

Like I tell you before that every machines has a purpose and you cannot have a multi purpose that will suit's all you need! It just like you can buy a SUV (that is what they tell us) like Honda CRV and you planned to use this car as an off roader too! and the result is you can take your car to the service department maybe 1 time each week and pay about million's of rupiah's each time, some broken bones cause of accident, head ache to modify your car to made it became an off roader, or maybe divorced with your wife cause you never at home cause of you never can get back to your home from off road adventure cause your car cannot move even a Km, and you must have a towing car start to take your car from mountain or off road area. So if you want to use car's for ussual road, you can use it, but if you planned to use a car for an off road you better think of a Land Rover or something that are made for it!

NB : For CRV lover and user, I don't mean to break your heart Ok.., hahaha...

Example : sanding are different from one to another, you cannot use one kind of wide belt sander to have a 240 grade, from saw mill or even double planner product! It even depend on also kind of your woods (you cannot use teak woods wide belt sanders to use it also for rubber woods!), the size of your woods, the material condition (veneer or laminated veneer or solid wood or jointed solid woods), the quality you need's (depend on which country you planned to sell your product). There are a major different for each machine for that kind of process! So don't start to think your machine can do it all, if you say you have the machine that can do it all, I will gladly come to your place and proove what I am saying about.

To choose the right machine for you, you must start to think about some question like as :

1. Product.

2. Size of your product.

3. Material of your product.

4. The market of your product.

5. The capacity you need's.

6. Quality that required by your buyer.

7. Moisture content from the woods.

8. Budget.

9. Factory size.

10. Machines before process.

11. Machines after process.

12. Finished or not finished product.

13. Improvement you expected from buying this machines.

14. Long term planning for your production.

15. Side product.

16. How long do you planned to use this machine.

17. Worker quality.

18. Maintenance cost.

19. Tooling cost.

20. Time estimation.

21. Electricity cost and availibility.

22. Number of worker.

23. Dust collector required.

24. Training.

25. Break even point.

26. After sales service.

Those think above are a basic question that we ussual ask to our customer and maybe now we don't need to ask them cause they would tell us before (I hope so..!).

There are a lot of thing's that you need to consider before buying a right machines, even some times we must have discussion for some customer and provide solution for them maybe years! and then they just start to think about investing something, but that is not something that should be a problem, because a good supplier is the one that provide something that are really needed! not something cheap but the customer don't needed it and use less! So it's better for us not to sell machine rather than we sell machines and make a lot of money from it, but then our customer will never buy machines from us again!

Please if you are planning to invest some machines, start to think what I mentioned above, believe me it will help you choose the right machine for you! At least it will help you choose the right supplier also!

Don't think about cheap or expensive machines, but start to think something that suits you. And also don't think about machine modification, it will spend your time (time is money!), your mind, and sometimes your wives (hahaha..., just kidding Ok..), and the result are something that is use less because that is something you are not specialized! It like as you ask a carpenter to make a good painting!

Second hand machine's are something that maybe cross at your mind, if they do, you can think about buying a second hand notebook's and you can have it as an experience how it will do! Believe me, they do cost more than the new one in a some periods!
Woodworking Machineryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03481510120379042258noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4575077816424867218.post-45534186916062408112008-12-19T21:48:00.001-08:002008-12-19T21:55:16.092-08:00Handycraft Machines
Come on don't be silly, there are none such as handycraft machines, okay you can get a CNC router, or a CNC carving machines, or even a manual carving machines, but do you really think buyer from other country would even think that kind handycraft especially carving product would be valuable if you made that by using machines? They will think that product as a cheap product! You can think to mad those think by machine ONLY if you made it for a component for a bed set, furniture or something like that stuff, but if you are making something that stand alone, don't start to think waste your money for machinery, you use machinery only to shape the wood's making it material that are ready to carved and ussusally people made it manually too!

The conclusion if you are making this product is start to invest for workers, a very nice one! Don't think to have machine for it!
Woodworking Machineryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03481510120379042258noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4575077816424867218.post-74843575655409700792008-12-19T19:57:00.000-08:002008-12-19T21:24:13.957-08:00Choosing machines for decking and flooring product.

What is a good machine? There are a lot of oppinion about this matter, there is some who think of this good machine meaning is a cheap second hand machine, but there is also some think a good machine is an expensive European machines.

There is no such thing as a good machine but there is only a machine that suits you!

Sometimes, for some product not always we need an expensive machines, but sometimes also we really need's that kind of machines, we must make this as our mind set before we choose which one is the best for us.

Just think like that you don't need a truck if you only carry thing's that only weight about 500 kg, but you must buy a truck if you carry ton's of stuff! and you don't need a ferrary that can run to 200 km/hour if you have a traffic jam and have a bad small road, but you must buy a ferrary if you have a good road and no traffic jam, and you must remember that a ferrary need's a very expensive maintenance cost than a Honda or something like that!

For simple example :

My product is an decking flooring for Asia market, with capacity of 15 cont of 40' each month using bengkirai woods, so because my output product is straightly get out from a moulding, that mean I will need a high quality moulder that have a very high speed (above 24 M/min), this is a silly mind set. A moulder with a high quality knife that have 4 wings, the knife configuration it self limited the speed for up to only about 20 M/min and that speed we can get only with the 4 wings can really cut the wood's equally (Impossible to do in this world!!!), so what do I need with this kind of product? . We can get a decking and flooring with high quality, high output (by the continuity of the machine that means, not a machines with a lot of stop and problems!) and less problems with the help of Straightening Rip Saw (this is a diiferent kind of rip saw that have the circle cut the wood from below, not above. I will explain about it later.), you must cut the wood both side longitudinal way by giving it very small allowance and then give the moulder just a little piece of the wood cut by it. This will give you an excellent quality (cause the wood cutted by the moulder is a very small part of it), high output (this mean continuity because you dont have to resharpening your knife too often, changing the knife and the moulder it self will keep running smoothly because it have a very minimum working pressure) and less cost (you dont have to repair too much for your wood product ad also less maintenance cost for your moulding machines).

This type of product (decking and flooring) have a very simple process that is saw mill (if you need one) then go to double planner, then a straightening rip saw, double end tenoner (the real double end not a double cut off machine!) then a moulder, but this kind of work require a high quality machines because it handles a solid wood's product that are expensive and hard to repaired (or it impossible?). So my oppinion if you are working with this kind of product, don't be silly to save your money for the machines!

For this kind of product if you are working with woods other than bengkirai (like teaks or mahogany), you must start to think about a finger joint line to start save your money and start to save your woods, a finger joint line type's that you need's is depend on how much the waste you produce each month, so I can arrange a suitable finger joint line for your production from manual to fully auto type and from beginning to the end of process.

A double planner for this kind of product is that can process as short as 200 mm (to consider someday you will worked with your waste to make it finger joint board or stick or something else in your mind), my suggestion is a double planner from Shenko, with short stock optional included and using spiral cutterhead (cheaper maintenance cost, less time for knife sharpening and better result so lighter the moulder working pressure), the type of the machine is SK-600 G.

A straightening rip saw that cut the wood from below that means you can cut the wood shortest as possible to help you with your finger joint later untill 100 mm shortest stock! and also guarantee the straight line shape without bending or other problem cause the different of working system with this machines, I recomended you to have a Straight line rip saw from Formosa (I bet you already know this big brand), the type of the machine is RSN 100.

A moulder that specialized for this product is an SKG 230 from Shenko, the spindle configuration is down-right-left-up-up-down, with 7200 rpm for the 4 and 6 spindle to have a finish result, V-belt pulley (to minimized working slip cause of cutting hard wood), short infeed table (to help cutting long and bending woods), frequency controlled infeed (more accurate and flexible for various kind of work) and the most important is a very rigid construction (this is the most valuable think from a moulder machines).

A double end tenoner (don't waste your money for a cheap and use double cut off machines! it cannot worked for this product!) that help you to have real precise with the T&G and can help you to have real 90 degree so we can use the woods for a nice result through and through from the moulder, I recomended you to use a double end tenoner from Sen yuh, the type are SYT-250B8E, with 8 head (please don't think about 6 or 4 head! it is use less!!), jumping knife equipped (to prevent wood chipping), and a heavy duty construction.

Those type of machines that I suggest you are a basic machines that is needed for this product, so you better start to think about it! And also those machines are flexible machines that can be used for other of product if you planned to have side product from the main product.

Remember there are also a different way to produce this product depend on the market, material, quantity and also quality that required.
